Abrar ul Haq’s first album in 9 years received a record one million streams on Taazi music app within the first ten days of release. Abrar kicked off his album launch with a mega concert at Bahria Town, Lahore which was attended by over 5,000 people. The album was launched simultaneously worldwide on various music platforms including iTunes and Spotify. However, it was Pakistan’s own music platform Taazi that received the highest number of streams and downloads for Abrar’s new album Aithay Rakh.
On the success of Abrar’s new album, Haroon, the founder of Taazi, had this to say; “I see the success of Abrar’s new album on Taazi as the beginning of the start of a turning point for the revival of music in Pakistan. We always knew for us to really shake things up in the music industry we would have to think outside the box. For the launch of Abrar’s album we entered into a media partnership with a TV network and the resulting publicity made a massive amount of difference.”
Taazi app, launched in August 2015, attempts to create a revolution in the Pakistani music industry by combatting piracy and by giving power back to the artists. Taazi provides a platform to Pakistani artists to directly distribute and sell their songs to fans legally. The Taazi app has been downloaded and installed nearly 300,000 times making it Pakistan’s no.1 ranked music platform.
Streaming on Taazi is free/ad supported for the users but they must pay to download songs. 70% of all income generated on Taazi goes to the music artists. Users of the Taazi app are eagerly paying to download songs which is generating revenue for artists.
On the Taazi weekly top charts, the first three songs are all songs from Abrar’s new album. Aithay Rakh is at number one, Billo-2 is at number two and Ferrari is at number three. For the month of May the Taazi monthly charts features Qurat ul Ain Baloch’s (QB) song ‘Mann Mayal’ with Shuja Hyder at the number one spot, the number two song is ‘Man Mora’ by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, while the song Aithay Rakh by Abrar ul Haq has made a new entry at the number three spot on the Taazi monthly charts. Currently the all-time most streamed song on Taazi is Tajdar-e-Haram by Atif Aslam with nearly half a million streams.
