By Hina Anjum: With a mission to change the perception of people about her province, the first lady of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Reham Khan, has stepped into the world of entertainment.
Reham Khan is all set to co-produce a romantic comedy ‘Janaan’ which is slated to be released on Eid-ul-Fitr next year. The movie will be co-produced by Hareem Farooq and Imran Rana Kazmi.
While talking about her debut production venture, Hareem Farooq said: “I want to take Pakistani talent to an international audience and that’s why I will be stepping into the world of film production with my business partner Imran Raza Kazmi (who also produced Siyaah) and Reham Khan (Mrs Imran Khan). Keep your fingers crossed!”
She further talked about how Reham ended up as one of the producers of Janaan: “Reham has always been fond of promoting art, and she wanted to play a role in promoting the local entertainment industry. We shared the script of the movie with her and she liked it so we decided to collaborate on the project.”
Written by Osman Khalid Butt, the Rom-Com ‘Janaan’ would be directed by Azfar Jafri, who had also directed Hareem’s acting debut, Siyaah, in 2013.
Unveiling the plot of the movie, Hareem said, “Janaan is a story of a Pakhtun girl who returns from Britain after her education. The story comically defies the stereotypes about Pakhtun families.”
Hareem brought the rumors to rest by clarifying that the movie will not be in Pashto but would be in Urdu, even if it does revolve around a Pakhtun family.
She explained, “I have always wanted to promote a softer image of the country, and I chose the story of a Pakhtun family because they are usually the most misunderstood and ridiculed ethnicity.”
Reham also stated, “The Urdu film is an all-out comedy based on a serious problem that our society is faced with. Our aim is to remove all the misconceptions about Pashtuns in society through a light, comedy Pashto film.”
Hareem had previously confirmed that Armeena Khan will be featured as the lead protagonist, and now the newest addition to the film’s cast has even been announced: “Glad to announce that heartthrob of millions and my co-star in Diyar e Dil, Ali Rehman Khan has been signed by my company IRK FILMS for the feature film JANAAN in the role of Daniyal. Welcome on board Ali.”
An actor by profession and a lady-killer by looks joins Armeena Khan in the Janaan cast. Ali Rehman Khan rose to stardom with his debut film Slackistan, but its ban in Pakistan prevented people of Pakistan from enjoying his acting debut.
Ali’s second film is Gol Chakkar, which was completed in 2011 but its release date is still not clear. Though, both films couldn’t make it to the people of Pakistan but Ali Rehman Khan wasn’t to be ignored!
He totally won us over with his debut work in drama serial Rishtay Kuch Adhooray Se on Hum TV, which earned him a Hum Award for Best Television Sensation Male at 2nd Hum Awards. He then starred in 2014 drama serial Muhabbat Ab Nahi Hugi which further gave him a positive response. In this drama serial, we got to see Armeena Khan as well in all her glory. She played the character ‘Fiza’ that proved to be a breakthrough for her, and for which she was also nominated for Hum Awards 2015.
To be precise, we are yet again going to witness these two together in Janaan. And who knows, this time we might get to see them as a couple. What a beautiful couple they’d make!
Ali Rehman Khan was last seen on Hum TV’s ongoing drama series Diyar-e-Dil. His first two films might not have let him enjoy his share of fame but now we have got our sights set on his upcoming film ‘Janaan’. Let see what Janaan has for our stylish hunk Ali Rehman Khan.
Armeena Rana Khan who spoke about her role in the film, stated: “We are currently in pre-production and although I can’t reveal too (many details), I can reveal that it will showcase Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and its people in a positive light.”
Reham reportedly proclaimed that with her personal experience paired with a team of young and talented people, who produced the award-winning film Siyaah, she looks towards a “refreshing start for our film industry.”
Apart from producing ‘Janaan’, Reham will also produce a Pashto Film based on legend Pashto poet Khushal Khan Khattak. Reham feels filmmaking is a medium of communication, both nationally and internationally – one that can be used to promote Pakistan, its rich culture and society, and she dreams to change the image of the Kyber Pakhtunkhwa province through the films she produces.
The films are currently in pre-production stage and are expected to begin filming soon. Keep visiting Taazi.com for latest updates!
