By AHMAD UZAIR // The Coke Studio ‘7’ is going to hit the airway on September ‘7’. Sounds Interesting? Yeah right! After a much criticized season last year which saw a total shuffle in the ranks of the CS team, they are coming back in a big way this year and perhaps pinning their hopes on the lucky number ‘7’.
After the departure of Rohail Hyaat, the muscial genius behind the mega success of this redefining musical show, Coca Cola Pakistan roped in the seasoned musical group STRINGS to produce its coming season. Keeping mum about the project for a long time, STRINGS recently broke the silence and gave couple of interviews in which they sounded quite optimistic and hoped for better outcome from the show, keeping in view the little ‘3 month time’ they had got to produce the show.
But it was just today that the biggest surprise came in form of the revelation of the artist line-up for the upcoming season of Coke Studio, certainly one of the most anticipated show of the region.
As far as the main acts are concerned, the new team seems to be banking more or less the same old names with the exception of few new artists as well. Most notable inclusion comes in the form of Zoheb Hassan who will be once again seen singing on country’s biggest platform. The arrival of Jawad Ahmad and Humaira Channa on the sets of CS is also being praised by the ardent music followers. Similarly younger music enthusiasts are really expecting alot from the newcomers such as Usman Riaz and Jimmy Khan on CS specially from the former who has shown immense talent in recent years. Here is a complete list of artists for the upcoming season of Coke Studio
” Abbas Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, Abrarul Haq, Akhtar Chanal Zahri, Asrar, Fariha Parvez, Humera Channa, Javed Bashir, Jawad Ahmed, Jimmy Khan, Komal Rizvi, Meesha Shafi, Momin Durrani, Naseer Shahab, Niazi Brothers, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahma Ali, Sajjad Ali, Sanam Saeed, Usman Riaz, Ustaad Raees Khan, Ustaad Tafu Khan, Zoe Viccaji and Zoheb Hasan.”
Also this time around we will be seeing some great featured musicians who will be bringing in all their diverse experience to the sets of CS. They include “Aamir Zaki, Adeel Bukhari, Arsalan Rabbani, Faraz Anwar, Ghulam Abbas, Hamza Jafri, Jaffer Hussain, Javed Iqbal, Kaleem Khan, Mubashir Admani, Omran Shafique, Sajid Ali, Saleem Khan, Shallum Xavier, Tanweer Hussain and Umer Daraz.”
But perhaps the biggest of the change comes in the form of almost complete overhaul of the much acclaimed house band of CS with only few earlier artists being retained. The list includes; ” Aahad Nayani on drums, Babar Ali Khanna on dhol, Imran Akhoond on guitars, Jaffer Ali Zaidi on keyboard, Khalid Khan on bass, Sikandar Mufti on percussions. Momin Durrani, Rachel Viccaji and Sara Haider”
With the amount of talent that STRINGS have got, we definitely cannot doubt their abilities to produce an amazing show but still there are lots of expectations from the duo and knowingly or unknowingly the comparison would be drawn with Mr.Hyaat.
The first promo of the show is out and the overall feel of the sets and lighting really reminds you of the earlier season of CS. Fingers Crossed!
