By Shershah Ahmed: Shiraz Uppal has had a very busy last couple of months indeed. Some of the best songs in Coke Studio Season 9 were under his direction, and now we have ‘Kalabaz Dil’, the OST to the highly anticipated upcoming Pakistani film ‘Lahore Se Aagey’, which is a spin-off to the very well received film ‘Karachi Se Lahore’. The song is sung by Aima Baig and Jabar Abbas, with lyrics penned by Shakeel Sohail and the music video is choreographed by Wahab Shah.
The track in question starts off with a somber tone that completely throws you off balance when it transitions into the lively strings section that is very upbeat in nature. Typical of a sub-continent hit movie song, the upbeat feel is further enhanced by dhol and a syncopated beat, along with a catchy chorus. Various traditional musical instruments native to Pakistan make an appearance, and none of them seem out of place along with the catchy chant-laden choruses.
One can easily imagine the upcoming winter wedding season will be making full use of this song, as its dynamic and sprightly nature, as well as the bhangra roots will be extremely popular. The song is stupendously produced and there are no shortcomings when it comes to the various production values, from lyrics to audio quality, to the mix of various instruments and vocals. This is to be expected from someone of Shiraz Uppal’s caliber, and it all results in a very enjoyable blend of traditional sound.
‘Lahore Sey Aagey’ revolves around a man named Moti, his journey to the Northern Areas, his interaction with a female rock star Saba Qamar, and everything that they experience together. Apart from Yasir Hussain who plays Moti and Saba Qamar who plays the female lead, the film includes prominent actors such as Atiqa Odho Behroze Sabzwari, Rubina Ashraf, Shiraz Uppal, Abdullah Farhatullah, and others. Directed by Wajahat Rauf under ARY Films, the movie releases on 11 November 2016, and it is shaping up to be a surefire hit and will definitely feature packed cinemas around the country!
