By Khaya Ahmed:They fired us up with their hit single Bandook, a unique and groovy tune that effortlessly fused Punjabi and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) to create something that was soon on the tips of everyone’s tongues. SomeWhatSuper, the dynamic duo comprising of Feroz and Talha, the geniuses from Lahore have returned with their latest single, Patang, a complete 180 from their previous track yet one that still has the power to pull you in.
Unlike Bandook, their latest track starts off on a more somber, melancholic note with nothing but the sound of an acoustic guitar and soft vocals to guide you through a sleepless night but slowly and surely, we begin to hear echoes of what propelled this band to become one of the breakthrough artists of the year. Sure enough, the two have experimented with another genre and proven to be successful with their amalgamation of EDM and the acoustic guitar which brings a hip twist to an otherwise subdued tune and elevates it another height. The track is a testament to how the duo have deeply studied the dynamics of Urdu music and EDM to find just the right means to make it work because let’s be honest, the initial sound of all these genres mingling into one may sound strange at first but SomeWhatSuper have perfected the formula and have created something magical.
The track has definitely lived up to the hype of their first single with the duo staying true not only to their brand of music but the artwork used to promote it. Courtesy of Amar Ali, the colorful image of a strong, spunky wielding a bandook is hard to forget and resonated perfectly with their track and the same goes for the artwork for Patang, equally resonates with the song as we’re treated to an image of a person flying off with his kite. With upcoming collaborations on the way, it seems that SomeWhatSuper has just begun and we at Taazi, wish them the very best in their endeavors.
